Global Compact Network Spain is developing with Mahou San Miguel its program “Avanzamos Juntos” (“We move forward together”), in order to promote CSR among its suppliers, and seeks to add value to the importance of responsible management throughout the supply chain.
"Avanzamos Juntos" started in 2015 as a pilot developed in Madrid, with the participation of 48 professionals from different entities. All companies providing services to Mahou fulfil the requirements of the company on CSR but after completing the course, a large percentage of them have incorporated new mechanisms of social responsibility in their business and have joined Global Compact.
Following this success, the program consolidates this year reaching more cities and suppliers, in particular more than 130 professionals from 80 companies. Over the coming months, different training sessions with suppliers of the headquarters of Mahou San Miguel in Alovera (Guadalajara), Málaga, Burgos and Lleida will be held. The goal: to help them to implement CSR in their business and, as a result, to reach the entire supply chain of Mahou San Miguel.
Participants will receive both theoretical and practical training aimed at identifying sustainability actions in areas such as human resources, business ethics, environmental protection and social commitment practices. They can also learn from the experience of leading companies in this field, which explain how its various initiatives have an impact on business development and on its environment. Another objective of the program, aimed at small and large companies, is that they understand CSR as a competitive advantage in the market.
A further step to progress on CSR
"Avanzamos Juntos" is another step in the commitment of Mahou San Miguel to responsible management and business ethics, extending it to the entire supply chain. It reinforces a path begun in 2014 with the launch of "Portal del Proveedor" (“Supplier Portal”), a communication channel created for its more than 5,500 suppliers in order to receive updated information and to declare their level of compliance with responsible and environmental actions, among others.
Isabel Garro, General Director of Global Compact Spain Network, stressed that "it is very important for the sustainability of our economic system that large companies can transmit ethical values in the entire supply chain, although it is a trend that is increasing. Through programs like Mahou San Miguel’s we transform supply chains into value chains. "
In words of Patricia Leiva, Director of Corporate Communication, Institutional Relations and Corporate Responsibility in Mahou San Miguel, "Avanzamos Juntos arises from the firm conviction that CSR should be managed from all areas of our company, and we are convinced that excellence and our supplier’s responsibility are the key factor of our own success. We want to return the support and trust that all these partner companies give to us, offering this innovative training program designed for them."
