Global Compact Local Network Spain has been appointed by the Spanish Government, through the inter-ministerial High Level Group for the Agenda 2030 that was created in October last year, to conduct the consultation to the private sector regarding the implementation of the Agenda 2030, given that Spain will voluntarily report to the High Level Political Forum of the ECOSOC in July this year.

The GCLN Spain has also been called by our Senate to report to the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 commission that was created to articulate the Agenda 2030 in our country at a legislative level.

This collaboration is part of the work that is being carried out by this Embassy to prepare the Spanish Voluntary National Review and the further action plan for the implementation of 2030 Agenda in our country. To achieve this, the participation of every stakeholder is required: public administrations, local and regional entities, the private sector, academia and the third sector.

The working method is being the most participative as possible. In this way, Spanish Network is leading another Spanish private sector organizations: AEF (Spanish Asociation of Fundations), Club de Excelencia en Sostenibilidad (Excellence in Sustainability Club), DIRSE (Spanish Asociation of CSR Managers), Forética, CEOE (Business Organizations Confederation), CEPES (Social Economy Enterprises), Corporate Excellence, SERES and Spainsif (Social Responsible Investment).

The first step has been to broadcast a survey to measure the knowledge and implementation of SDGs among all the Spanish companies (large, SMES or microinterprises).  In addition to this, we will elaborate a report on the existing actions, as well as a compilation of best practices. The results of this and other conclusions will be shared at an event in Madrid in May.

"We are at a critical moment", has highlighted  Isabel Garro, General Manager at Spanish Global Compact Network, "in which not only is it recognised that companies have a key role in the sustainability of our planet, but they are also asked for their experience and opinion in order to draw up an action plan that includes them and gives them a role according to their importance".
