The number of associated entities with the Global Compact Network Spain has increased from 439 to 474 in 2016. This evolution supposes a growth of 7.9%, so that the positive upward trend continues along last years. Specifically, the business entities has had a growth of 7.4% and non-business organizations, a increase of 10.6%. Currently, the Spanish Network partners are 31% large companies, 51% SMEs and 18% are other entities.
Ángel Pes, president of Global Compact Network Spain, considers it very positive: «Today we are 8% more than 12 months ago. This is a very positive point for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), because we need the support of all the signatories for its dissemination, and I sincerely believe that with a collective effort, we can achieve a society that «leaves no one behind».
Mentoring partners (members which specially promote the engagement with the Spanish Network) has increased from 13 in 2015 to 19 in 2016. In 2016 these organizations that has been inspirational with the Ten Principles to get new members are: Eticologic SL, Taranna Club de Viatges, AGBAR – General Society of Aguas de Barcelona SA, Iberdrola SA, Association Of International Transport by Road (ASTIC) and MACG Asesores – Auditores SL
Business signatories grow around 5%
Regarding the number of signatories, business entities have increased a 4.8% in 2016 in comparison to 2015, with 2.291 companies joined to Global Compact in Spain. Non-corporate entities have gone from 449 to 226, due to the change in reporting COE policy for non-business entities. This new policy requires the submission of a sustainability report for non business organizations, so those that have not published it in 2016 have been expelled. This fact has been due to different causes, organizations that are not active or due to the lack of resources to elaborate de COE.
