The UN Global Compact Network Spain and Voluntariado y Estrategia have presented a new initiative on 12th September to promote knowledge and implementation of the Sustainable Development Gloals (SDGs) in theprivate sector. COMPANIES4SDGs is a global campaign that aims to bring Agenda 2030 closer to companies and their employees. As Isabel Garro, general manager at UN Global Compact Network Spain said in the presentation: «The SDGs ask us to rethink everything and to collaborate. Of course with the employees of our companies and with this project we landed the SDGs so that they can take action”.

Supported by IMPACT 2030 – a private sector-led initiative, in collaboration with the United Nations, with the unique mission to activate human capital investments through employee volunteer programs to advance the achievement of SDGs- this proposal is based on the companies’ internal communication channels so that their professionals adopt sustainable habits and become involved in corporate volunteering activities. In the event Juan Ángel Poyatos, Director of Voluntariado y Estrategia, commented that «COMPANIES4SDG will raise awareness among the population through the channels of companies, will promote sustainable habits among employees and will spread corporate volunteering as a drive to achieve the SDGs «. To this end, a plan of action has been drawn up that will be spread over a year, so that each month one or two of the 17 SDGs will be working. Thus, a communication kit has been created that will be distributed to all member companies. It includes  17 posts focused on the current reality,  recommendations for companies and audiovisual material. Likewise, each month challenges will be proposed, as well as healthy habits and ideas of volunteering to apply them in the professional environment.

In addition, he initiative is integrated into a global effort whose achievements will be reported at the IMPACT 2030 Summit at UN, and will be held in New York in September 2018.

Currently, there are already 23 companies that have confirmed their participation in the initiative. Three of them are part of IMPACT 2030: Iberdrola, Telefónica Foundation and «La Caixa» Bank Foundation.
