The Spanish Official Credit Institute (ICO) and the Global Compact Network Spain, with the support of the High Commissioner for the 2030 Agenda in Spain, launch a new website www.icopymeods.es where SMEs and the self-employed can consult all the information on the 2030 Agenda, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as business opportunities that their commitment to the 2030 Agenda can bring them.
The Spanish Official Credit Institute, in its mission to promote the growth of the Spanish economy, is aware that SMEs, which represent more than 98% of the business fabric, play a leading role in generating employment, economic growth and social welfare. For this reason, the public bank has launched this initiative aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises as a useful tool for aligning their activity with the new economic and financial paradigms.
This action is carried out in partnership with the Global Compact Network Spain, which has the mandate of the United Nations to work on SDGs with the private sector. It has been successfully promoting sustainability among Spanish small and medium enterprises for fifteen years, essential entities for implementing a sustainable way of doing business that is appropriate for the economic development of our country.
SMEs have the opportunity and the capacity to contribute to sustainable development and at the same time get a benefit from the business opportunities that the 2030 Agenda brings. The possibility of entering new key markets, accessing subsidies and contracts with the public administration, increasing their business with large companies, anticipating national and European Union regulations and increasing their sales through responsible consumption are just a few examples of these business opportunities.
Those companies that have already decided to commit to the 2030 Agenda can consult all the information necessary to build a strategy that will allow them to start their transformation into a sustainable company on the website www.icopymeods.es.
