The president of CEOE (the most important Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations), Antonio Garamendi, and the president of the Global Compact Network Spain, Ángel Pes, have signed a collaboration agreement to work on the awarenessand promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Spanish business organizations and the private sector.
With this agreement, Spanish businessmen are seeking to promote the United Nations 2030 Agenda, since its application will generate new opportunities and improvements in efficiency, promoting innovation and sustainability. This will lead to a more rational use of resources, which will benefit the economy of the companies involved with the SDGs.
In this line, the president of CEOE has stated that «2030 Agenda is to put the person at the center of things» and that «the company has to lead the implementation of SDGs».
The president referred to the SDG number 17 and the importance of creating partnership for the development of these Goals, as in the case of this agreement. «Now is the time for partnership because we have to work together to make the Agenda known,» he said.
For his part, the president of the Global Compact Network Spain has explained that «we can only transform the economy and markets by changing the way companies do and understand business, we need companies that seek not only economic profitability, but also the generation of positive social and environmental impacts for the planet.
